REVIEWS: Susan Barch, 1st grade teacher, Gill Elementary As a first grade teacher who is seeing more and more students with food allergies, I'm thrilled to see a children's book addressing this issue. It will certainly appeal to young children with its rhyming format and matching illustrations. Tracie Mulari-Schrand's book points out areas of concern that one doesn't usually think about. We, as teachers, need to think beyond the safety of our classrooms and consider the whole school and the playground. It is so important to read these kinds of books to our students and this one is easy to understand and short enough to hold the childrens 'interest. It has been my experience that, when given the chance, the children will help to keep each other safe. When spoken of in a matter-of-fact, understandable way, as this book does, the things an allergic child needs to do don't have to seem so different than everyone else. The children love endings like the one in this book where they are asked to remember what the main points were. Great reinforcement!
